Here are the 5 hottest restaurants in Halton for the week of Aug. 18 - Aug. 24 based on the amount of organic page views and searches these restaurants received on inhalton.com.

5. Stone House

Burlington

They’re known for their oysters and steak but we’re about to put you onto the Shrimp & Lobster Mac and Cheese. Stone House Restaurant opened in Jan. 2010 and features Mediterranean cuisine, including gourmet thin-crust pizzas, risotto, and pasta dishes. But the mac and cheese …. It’s served with fresh tiger shrimp and potato gnocchi in a garlic cream sauce baked with mozzarella, parmesan, and goat cheese … plus a two-ounce lobster tail. It’s accompanied by garlic bread, but you really don’t even want it because the entire dish feels so gluttonous and fancy and carb-loaded, however, you’ll eat it because it’s superb. If you haven’t tried it, head to Stone House for the best mac and cheese dish in Burlington!

4. Sushi-Ya Japan

Milton

Sushi-Ya Japan is a small restaurant serving up big taste in a prime location: downtown Milton. You’ll find it just off of Main St., along Martin. You’ll see men in suits, depending on the time of day, talking business over maki. Or there may be solo diners who need to get their sushi on, solo. Here you’ll find a relaxed spot serving up rolls, teriyaki, noodle dishes, plus Korean specialties (and you may overhear them speaking Korean in the kitchen). Start with miso soup or salad (with miso dressing) and edamame, then fill yourself up on a salmon or tuna combination. It’s equal parts simple and delicious. It’s a perfect place to eat healthy and stay trendy. This is a classic hidden gem. You’re welcome!

3. J.A.C's Bistro

Oakville

This adorable Kerr Village gem offers up great eats and that includes dessert and the wonderfully perfect Salted Caramel Cheesecake (made in-house). Ours was drizzled with caramel and wasn’t overly rich or sweet. It came with berries and fresh vanilla whipped cream. Needless to say, the cheesecake was polished off rather quickly! The regular menu features a hybrid of rustic Italian and French cuisine; the finest seasonal produce is used. The Wild Mushroom Salad, for example, is a delicious blend of sauteed mushrooms and roasted sweet pearl onions over baby arugula. It’s topped with aged feta then drizzled with a honey balsamic dressing. Scrumptious! Jail Island Salmon is another popular dish, with lemon fennel crusted salmon over a marbled potato gratin with butter poached asparagus and Dijon cream sauce. The wraps - including smoked chicken, smoked salmon, grilled vegetable - are delightfully light and filling.

2. Martini House

Burlington

This tiny-fine dining restaurant provides an array of gourmet, chef-made menu items (and libations, obviously). The hand-made gnudi is created in-house and stands out as a star dish, featuring lemon-thyme ricotta, roasted pearl onions, mushrooms, and walnut pesto. It's equal parts light yet addictive. Popular items include the delicious mushroom pizza, with buttered leeks and truffle oil, and braised beef yorkies, which is oh-so-comforting on any given day. So's the cornbread served under the crab cakes. And the chicken florentine crepe is something to write home about.

1. Ricarda’s

Oakville

There's a bicycle by the entrance in downtown Oakville and an interior you'll love. Plus, there's jazz with Sunday brunch. A popular Toronto-based Mediterranean bakery, cafe, and restaurant is now at 219 Lakeshore Rd. E. Ricarda’s offers up everything from flatbreads (we love the Orbetello version, featuring prosciutto, figs, gorgonzola, walnuts, and brussels sprouts) to the aforementioned weekend feast, plus dinner and cocktails. There are plenty of vegetarian options, including custom salads. The Quinoa and Spinach burger is a hit, featuring balsamic-glazed portobello mushrooms, pepper jam, and smoked cheese (there's also feta in the burger). It's served with a green field tabbouleh salad or shoestring fries which are downright addictive. Carnivores will love the Lamb Burger with scamorza cheese, tomato aioli, caramelized onions, romaine, and some absolutely perfect shoestring fries. The restaurant’s Toronto location is on Peter St., right in the entertainment district and boasts a substantial food menu. It’s best known for its upscale-yet-unpretentious vibe and vast array of eats such as quiche, flatbread, pizza, and wine. The new Oakville menu is curated and early best-sellers include the Carnaroli Risotto with black truffle oil, wild mushrooms, aged balsamic glaze, and hibiscus sea salt flakes (I will legit try just about anything with hibiscus). With its airy, brass-heavy interior and great service, it will no doubt satisfy locals who can never have enough fantastic Mediterranean eats.
