This elegant Main St. resto is perfect for a date … a pizza date. As soon as I enter I’m greeted, whisked to a table, and promptly served. The sounds of Frank Sinatra fill the elegant, open concept space, where it’s warm and inviting, with tons of natural light. My Neapolitan pizza - with organic natural yeast - was lit up in a wood-fire oven, then served piping hot. It’s incredible, with a very thin crust, and the toppings (namely salomi ) were phenomenal. It’s so simple (tomato sauce, Buffalo Mozzarella, basil, and extra virgin olive oil) yet so scrumptious. Service was absolutely outstanding — never have I seen a restaurant where all staff are smiling and happy. No wonder diners have been flocking here since 2002. If you haven’t been to Pasqualino, check it out - when you’re not in a rush - and savour the best pizza in Milton!
Go for the brisket … leave having sampled everything because the ravenous carnivore in you will surface and the meat is *that* damn fantastic. (Also, the Korean BBQ Nachos are amaaaaazing). Barque Smokehouse first opened in Toronto's west-end Roncesvalles Village in 2011, heading further west to Burlington in summer 2017. Once you’re seated, you’re served popcorn and complimentary sparkling water. Don’t look at the menu. Just order the Smoked Beef Brisket with red cabbage slaw, fried onions, and horseradish mayo. Now, the popcorn. It’s amazing. You might sneeze or cough but you must keep snacking. (Turn the container upside down, RIGHT over your mouth, if no one is watching). The seats are so comfy, the vibe is fun and casual chic, and the meat speaks for itself. For the plant-based lovers in your life, the Blackened Cajun Sweet Potato Tacos are a great choice. Barque serves locally grown ingredients when possible. The menu also offers Pulled Pork Poutine, Southern Fried Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Smoked Wings. Service is awesome.
If you’re looking for a bonafide hipster hot spot in Oakville, Bru is your go-to resto. The downtown joint hits every mark when it comes to on-trend dining: a rustic interior, an enviable craft beer selection (the best of its kind in the town, in fact) and a menu full of modern pub fare (some of which is gluten-free and vegan-friendly). Plus, they’re proud of the fact there’s no Wi-Fi (go ahead and act like it’s 1995 … talk to each other, the sign urges). Nestled along ‘restaurant row’, Bru supports more than 15 Ontario breweries and offers a variety of on-tap and bottled brews. As far as food goes, the diverse menu is satisfying and unique. If you’re in the mood for a sandwich, try The Brisket. It’s got in-house smoked brisket, honey bourbon BBQ sauce, pickles, and corn slaw. Yum! Get the fries, too.
Downtown Burlington’s food scene just got a boost, Italian-style. The Express Italian Eatery has opened along Lakeshore Rd. at Brant St. and it’s serving up pizza, pasta, steak and seafood. The new restaurant opened last month in the former Salvatore’s spot. It's from Hamilton -- there's a location by McMaster University and another on Grays Rd. closer to Stoney Creek. Burlington is the third location. The Express is named after the train in Italy which weaved through Bolzano, Milano, Florence, Bologna, Rome, Calabria and Sicily. The menu represents a fusion of northern, central and southern Italian cuisine. What's in store? Made to order wood fire pizzas, fresh in- house pasta and hand tossed gourmet salads. You'll really want to get the Ravioli al Brasato di Manzo. Why? Pillows are stuffed with braised beef then topped with sauteed red onions and mushrooms. It's comfort food that's flavoured impeccably (and reminds me of my university roommate Tania’s pot roast ... gone Italian). The Gnocchi, made in-house, arrives in a dreamy, creamy Rose sauce. It's topped with fried sweet potato chips for a layer of texture. If you're into sharing, you'll want to order the Venetian pizza ($16). It's got a thin crust plus asiago, soppressata, fresh rapini and pepperoncino, made in-house. It's fantastic and perfectly crispy. Service is great, and here's something special for the ladies: They give out blankets on the patio if you’re cold (or inside when the A/C is blasting.
Excellent food, great prices. This adorable little Aldershot Village gem fills right up in no time. That oughta tell you something. Offering up French cuisine, the bistro offers up market fresh cuisine (and offers a lovely patio come summer). You can go with the chalkboard picks or start with the Fried Cauliflower (lightly breaded and fried, romesco sauce, and garlic aioli) and chicken liver Pate. There’s also Classic Escargot, Pistou Shrimp, and Baked Brie to start, plus mains such as Steak and Frites, Frenched Pork Chops, Lamb Shank, and so much more! We absolutely adore the burger. Finally, dinner isn’t complete without dessert. There’s an array of cheesecake, plus pie and of course, Creme Brulee!
