The menu is curated and the offerings are fabulous. This cute little downtown Oakville spot opened its doors in October 2016 and is an under-the-radar dining experience when it comes to great Sicilian fare. If you’ve never been, start with the fried artichokes (incredible!) and order the steak (equally fabulous but keep in mind it’s not offered daily since the meat selection is changed up). We also dig the fabulously fabulous burrata-tomato salad! The resto is casual yet authentic, kid-friendly and - more importantly - offers a solid wine list, plus cocktails and beer. Service is very friendly. You must go.
The popular Streetsville Neapolitan wood oven pizza restaurant that’s known for its rustic-chic interior, homemade southern Italian dishes and exclusive Italian wine selection, officially opened its doors in Halton at 22 Ontario St. S., across from the Milton Mall, in a former Re/Max realty office. Finally. It's an ideal place to break all of your new year's resolutions. With authentic Neapolitan wood oven pizza, the menu focuses on authentic Southern Italian cuisine. A variety of legit Napoletana pizzas include the Margherita Pizza, topped with San Marzano sauce, mozzarella fiore di latte, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil. You'll also find Romano pizza and homemade pastas, all made in-house. The Maccheroni alla Carbonara pasta dish includes pancetta, egg yolks, pecorino romano, and black pepper. The mozzarella di bufala, and parmigiano-reggiano cheeses are some of the ingredients they use imported directly from Italy. Goodfellas boasts an extensive Italian wine selection which pairs beautifully with great eats.
The dress code is casual, however, the food is anything but. The amazing Gnocchi is braised for 12 hours. While you’re there, try the Paradiso Burger, which tastes Incredible (hold up, grammar nerds — that’s an intentional capital ‘I’). Seasoned meat - a great combination of Angus beef and chorizo sausage - is unbelievably satisfying. The house-made patty is flavoured and tastes incredible as-is. One bite in, and I’m in burger paradise. This thick patty is topped with smoked cheddar, house-made ketchup and sweet pickles, smoked honey dijon mustard, then served with herb roasted mini red potatoes. Impressing Oakville diners for 20 years (there’s also a Burlington location on Pine St.) you’ve gotta make a reservation and get your burger on!
Celadon House is an absolute gem of a restaurant that we discovered in the early 2000s before it moved to its current (and more spacious) location at Ford Drive and Royal Windsor. Specializing in what they call Asian comfort food, the dedicated (and incredibly friendly) husband and wife team behind Celadon House offer diners a personal and memorable restaurant experience. In terms of food, pretty much each and every menu item is comforting and delicious. Some choice favourites are the sweet and savory hunan dumplings (steamed pork dumplings covered in peanut and soy ginger sauce), the garlic rice and the superbly spicy mapo tofu. Another favourite dish is the coconut beef curry, which comes with melt-in-your-mouth tendon chunks. In terms of beverages, you have to try the coconut frappe and the ginger tea—both are delicious in very different ways.
Anyplace that serves light, yummy food (made from scratch) right up until last call is a winner in my eyes. The menu is 100 per cent gluten-free, making this downtown Brant St. resto a popular spot. I ordered three tacos: Spicy Brussels Sprout, Chipotle Sweet Potato, and Fish. The sweet potato taco was my favourite, with an awesome crunchy coating. I almost ate the whole thing in two bites. All pickled items are made in-house, and their flavour combos are kind of rad. Great service, too.
