Another Chinese take-out spot in Oakville! Large portion sizes that help you stretch your dollar and a lot of menu options to choose from. The chilli chicken is crispy and spicy, but their dim sum is simply fantastic! Chinese dim sum is cheap and even healthy if steamed. Dragon House has a few different dim sum options, but if you want to play it safe, try the 4 piece Pork Shu Mai for a fair $5.25. If you’re a dim sum fan living in Oakville, this is definitely worth a visit!
Kerr Street Cafe and sister company Brothers’ Coffee Roasters (their Notorious espresso blend is fire!) are known for being on point. They plate their meals beautifully and even offer bike racks out front. Their famous all-day breakfast includes French Toast, Chia Pudding, and Pancakes (with rosemary custard, local fruit, bee pollen, creme fraiche). There’s also an enormous slice of Healthy Toast, served on sourdough with hummus, alfalfa sprouts, cucumbers, etc. It’s equal parts superb and super-filling. Lunch offers up salads, the Burger Queen, a fish burrito, and a smoked chicken and brie sandwich. This Kerr Village staple, featuring a cafe and restaurant, has such a relaxing atmosphere (with plenty of natural light) it’s second only to a day at the spa. Or a day trip to New York City, because it feels like I’m at a posh cafe near Columbia University. The resto is serving dinner and all I have to say is, it’s about time! If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?
Sushi-Ya Japan is a small restaurant serving up big taste in a prime location: downtown Milton. You’ll find it just off of Main St., along Martin. You’ll see men in suits, depending on the time of day, talking business over maki. Or there may be solo diners who need to get their sushi on, solo. Here you’ll find a relaxed spot serving up rolls, teriyaki, noodle dishes, plus Korean specialties (and you may overhear them speaking Korean in the kitchen). Start with miso soup or salad (with miso dressing) and edamame, then fill yourself up on a salmon or tuna combination. It’s equal parts simple and delicious. It’s a perfect place to eat healthy and stay trendy. This is a classic hidden gem. You’re welcome!
Although India is one third the size of Canada, its population density makes it more than 34 times larger than that of the true north. With such a large population, it’s no surprise that its cuisine can differ so greatly from state to state. Prince of India’s menu has gone so far as to offer dishes from the tiny state of Goa, India. Prawn Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, and Goan Fish Curry are all interesting options on their menu, along with some Indian classics like Butter Chicken and Palak Paneer. With over 8 different types of bread and Hakka items as well, this resto has a few interesting options if you’re looking to try some different.
Go for the brisket … leave having sampled everything because the ravenous carnivore in you will surface and the meat is *that* damn fantastic. (Also, the Korean BBQ Nachos are amaaaaazing). Barque Smokehouse first opened in Toronto’s west-end Roncesvalles Village in 2011, heading further west to Burlington in summer 2017. Once you’re seated, you’re served popcorn and complimentary sparkling water. Don’t look at the menu. Just order the Smoked Beef Brisket with red cabbage slaw, fried onions, and horseradish mayo. Now, the popcorn. It’s amazing. You might sneeze or cough but you must keep snacking. (Turn the container upside down, RIGHT over your mouth, if no one is watching). The seats are so comfy, the vibe is fun and casual chic, and the meat speaks for itself. For the plant-based lovers in your life, the Blackened Cajun Sweet Potato Tacos are a great choice. Barque serves locally grown ingredients when possible. The menu also offers Pulled Pork Poutine, Southern Fried Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Smoked Wings. Service is awesome.
