They’re dark and they’re freshly marinated and the meat is amazingly tender and I want to run up and down Commercial St. yelling about how tasty these wings are. Luigi’s wings aren’t breaded … but they are baked then fried. I tried a few sauces (BBQ, hot, and honey garlic) then decided to eat them plain because they were just that damn delicious! This popular spot is gaining notoriety thanks to word of mouth. Go on and find out what all the fuss is about.
This rustic modern Tuscan farmhouse in Bronte Harbour is gorgeous, with a mix of marble tables, pendant lighting ,sconces and a retractable roof on the patio! (The heritage home is from 1843 … one look at the beautiful patio and I know where I’ll be parked all summer!) Created by the Mercanti family of Hamilton, the menu highlights sustainable seafood and classic italian spuntino (snacks or bites). Yolanda’s - home to coastal Italian fare - offers yummy eat. The grilled calamari was a delicious starter, while the gnocchi, made in-house, was incredible, featuring truffle cream. The charcuterie board comes with two cheese selections and salumi, alongside a delectable oil and balsamic reduction. The knotted bread is to die for! I could eat those everyday for the rest of my life. For dessert, the tiramisu was light and fresh, and reminiscent of pudding. Service is stellar. Run, don’t walk, to Yolanda’s and buy me a drink on the patio!
They’re known for their oysters and steak but we’re about to put you onto the Shrimp & Lobster Mac and Cheese. Stone House Restaurant opened in Jan. 2010 and features Mediterranean cuisine, including gourmet thin-crust pizzas, risotto, and pasta dishes. But the mac and cheese …. It’s served with fresh tiger shrimp and potato gnocchi in a garlic cream sauce baked with mozzarella, parmesan, and goat cheese … plus a two-ounce lobster tail. It’s accompanied by garlic bread, but you really don’t even want it because the entire dish feels so gluttonous and fancy and carb-loaded, however, you’ll eat it because it’s superb. If you haven’t tried it, head to Stone House for the best mac and cheese dish in Burlington!
The meal started with Cannellini Bean Hummus (the handstretched pizza bread is all I need to get by — it’s simply incredible on its own) so I let my dining companions try it before polishing off the entire serving of bread (carb-loading 101). It’s a good thing I found out about their Zeppoline doughnuts after three celebratory birthday dinners, when I was all out of room for dessert … Tavolo, known for its perfectly perfect margherita pizza and fried calamari, also has a divine dessert offering: house-made doughnuts. They’re tossed in sugar and served atop Nutella and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. While I’ve never been a doughnut person (except at The Ex each summer, because Tiny Tom Donuts are a national treasure!), these will convert the saltiest salt enthusiast. (And if you’d prefer a more savoury treat, try the Zucchini Bruschetta, pictured at the top. It has diced yellow and green zucchini, red onion, goat cheese, and fresh basil on a toasted garlic crostini. Yum!)
The dress code is casual, however, the food is anything but. The Butternut Squash tastes Incredible (hold up, grammar nerds — that’s an intentional capital ‘I’). It features sundried tomatoes in an oh-so-creamy sage-gorgonzola sauce that is unbelievably satisfying. Then there’s the Paradiso Burger. The house-made patty is flavoured and tastes incredible as-is. One bite in, and I’m in burger paradise. This thick patty is topped with smoked cheddar, house-made ketchup and sweet pickles, smoked honey dijon mustard, then served with herb roasted mini red potatoes. Impressing Oakville diners for 20 years (there’s also a Burlington location on Pine St.) you’ve gotta make a reservation and get your burger on!
