You know it's good when a national newspaper comes knockin' for some smokin' BBQ at a mom and pop shop. This family-run resto has been serving up southern BBQ for more than 20 years. In addition to winning accolades by the dozen, they’ve got a Woodbridge location bearing the same name. A few sauces are made in-house, such as the Alabama Slamma, and their smoked wings come doused in their Signature BBQ sauce. Overall, the Hot Creamy Parm is their most popular sauce. It looks dangerously fattening but ain't nobody got time to count calories when you're at the best wing joint in Milton!
The dress code is casual, however, the food is anything but. This Pine St. resto has been pleasing Halton residents who love them a good Seafood Stew, Roasted Vegetable Spanakopita, or Crab Ravioli. And just like the original downtown Oakville location, the salads are ever popular. The kale and apple salad, topped with roasted trout (you can also get grilled sirloin), features Tuscan kale and baby arugula. It's served with quinoa and finished with shaved green apple and a lemon-herb vinaigrette. Yum!
This north-end Italian joint is owned by Julia Hanna, who also ran Ristorante Julia downtown. With a warm interior, the Oak Walk Dr. resto houses an adorable Nonna Wall, honouring women who fed and nurtured their families, the server explains. She recommends the veal and the gnocchi, made in-house by Julia's mother. I started with the Calamari Fritti — the large portion of salty & crispy squid was coated with cornmeal then dusted with flour, served with a tasty cherry pepper basil aioli. The gnocchi, topped with Alla Vodka sauce and fresh greens, was soft and delicious, while the handbreaded veal parmigiana was thin, crispy, filling, and flavourful, served alongside spaghetti pomodoro. For dessert? Cannoli, of course! Ritorno means 'to return' and with comfort food like this, how could you not be back for more?
The Mye restaurant brand is the best in Oakville and the original Mye is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Oakville in the Lakeshore and Trafalgar area. It 's located in what looks like an old house and they have modernized it by partitioning the dining room off with glass. We had the exact same seven course-tasting menu as we had in Mye 2 with just one difference at the original Mye. There was a crab claw in my sunomono salad, which Mye 2 didn't have. The location of this Mye restaurant with the combination of the fresh crab claw makes this location just an inch better than Mye 2!
The menu is curated and the offerings are fabulous. This cute little downtown Oakville spot opened its doors in October 2016 and is an under-the-radar dining experience when it comes to great Sicilian fare. If you've never been, start with the fried artichokes (incredible!) and order the steak (equally fabulous but keep in mind it's not offered daily since the meat selection is changed up). The resto is casual yet authentic, kid-friendly and - more importantly - offers a solid wine list, plus cocktails and beer. Service is very friendly. You must go.
