5 Hottest Restaurants in Oakville, Burlington, and Milton – March 10 – 16

Here are the 5 hottest restaurants in Halton for the week of March 10 to March 16 based on the amount of organic page views and searches these restaurants received on inhalton.com.

5. The Express

Burlington

The Express Italian Eatery, located along Lakeshore Rd. at Brant St., serves up pizza, pasta, steak and seafood. The restaurant is named after the train in Italy which weaved through Bolzano, Milano, Florence, Bologna, Rome, Calabria and Sicily. The menu represents a fusion of northern, central and southern Italian cuisine. What’s in store? Made to order wood fire pizzas, fresh in- house pasta and hand tossed gourmet salads. You’ll really want to get the Ravioli al Brasato di Manzo. Why? Pillows are stuffed with braised beef then topped with sauteed red onions and mushrooms. It’s comfort food that’s flavoured impeccably (and reminds me of my university roommate Tania’s pot roast … gone Italian). The Gnocchi, made in-house, arrives in a dreamy, creamy Rose sauce. It’s topped with fried sweet potato chips for a layer of texture. If you’re into sharing, you’ll want to order the Venetian pizza ($16). It’s got a thin crust plus asiago, soppressata, fresh rapini and pepperoncino, made in-house. It’s fantastic and perfectly crispy. Service is great, and here’s something special for the ladies: They give out blankets on the patio if you’re cold (or inside when the A/C is blasting.

4. Thai House Campbellville

Milton

It’s the perfect place to replenish after getting lost while hiking at Hilton Falls with your friend Jill (complete with a strapped in baby). This cute little Thai resto is a bonafide hidden gem in Halton (it’s also near a somewhat treacherous turn by the tracks but that’s neither here nor there). First time diner? Start with the mango salad, pad Thai, and a green curry. It’s not the sexiest place to head to but the place fills up, regardless. (And I think you know me well enough by now to realize I’m all about *taste* over fashion!). Speaking of which, flavours shine through and this is by far the best Thai meal in town.

3. Napoli Pizza

Burlington

There’s something about the sweet sauce … this tiny pizza place keeps on pleasing. It’s cheap, it’s hot, and you don’t have to drive in circles to find parking. And as soon as you bite into that crust, you’ll know why it’s consistently ranked as one of the best in Burlington. ‘Nuff said.

2. Chef’s Door

Oakville

You can’t go wrong with an award-winning sandwich from Chef’s Door. This Oakville chain has three locations across town, offering Halal cuts of chicken, lamb and kofta kebabs in a family-friendly environment. The founder, Abdel Ghanem, boasts world-renowned expertise in animal production, allowing for high-quality cuts of meat. Vegetarians are also catered to with menu items such as falafel, tabbouleh, hummus and baba ganoush. I opted for a fully loaded chicken sandwich and watched the guy shave it off the spit. The shawarma was superb and really fresh … I ate half and packed the rest to go. I’ll be sure to return for another excellent meal which I can fully consume in one sitting.

1. Downtown Bistro & Grill

Burlington

It’s a great little hidden gem with fabulous service and a flashy orange door, which is what drew us in. The bistro is known for its salads and crepes - Seafood or Chicken - and so it began … The Greens and Berries Salad is so fresh and light and lovely. It features mixed greens, fresh seasonal berries (I had strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries) with a yummy vinegar-heavy mission fig dressing and roasted pecans. The dish is technically served with blue cheese but staff were happy to sub goat cheese instead. (Mental note to eat here when I’ve got a business meeting booked right before the gym). The Chicken Crepe is also served with goat cheese, plus sauteed spinach and a house-smoked chicken breast in a tangy rose sauce. I’m a fan of crispier crepes but the sauce had me going back for more even though I was stuffed. The fries are amazing! And for dessert - they’re all made in-house, too - get the carrot cake … it has pineapple.
