Wings are well done at this popular pub — EddieO’s nailed the delicate balance of a crispy coating with tender meat on the inside. Their wings are as addictive as they come, served with a great Jager BBQ sauce. The pub’s industrial aesthetic, complete with exposed beams, has large, comfy booths which are multi-staggered for optimum privacy (so y’all can lick your fingers in peace!)
Green curry with chicken was my favourite dish at this Upper Middle Shopping Centre joint. It was creamy, perfectly spiced (medium on the hotness scale, which would cause most people to reach for milk but I’m East Indian so it was mild) and had a generous serving of green peas for extra protein. The Fresh Rolls were just that — rice wrappers filled with veggies plus a tangy peanut dipping sauce which I nearly licked from the plate. The menu is vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free friendly. Decor is modern decor and the seats, while limited, are comfy, meaning I could sit here for a few hours and keep eating. Oh, and make sure you order the Mango Salad — it’s superb!
Boasting beautiful decor with plenty of natural light, Julia’s is home to a great bar, gorgeous red chandeliers and excellent service. It’s a glamorous place to eat. Then there’s the gnocchi … made in-house by a nonna named Caterina, who has worked alongside Julia for 34 years. Ingredients are high-quality, including locally produced meat, dairy & produce. Julia’s offers paella, Spain’s national dish, which includes chorizo sausage, tiger shrimp, mussels, sweet peas, oven roasted roma potatoes and sofrito rice. Check out Julia’s fusion of Latino and Italian cuisine!
This hip Italian bar-slash-gastropub is one of the newest along Brant St., taking over the former Eatalia spot. I found this place while strolling downtown … the stunning aesthetic caught my eye so I went in to find out more, quickly realizing it’s Burlington’s best-kept burger secret. Just order The Burger and wait for it to arrive. Take in the glorious horseshoe-shaped bar and industrial light fixtures and wooden chairs with colourful legs. Try not to drool over the food or decor. Decked out between a bun with black-and-white sesame seeds you’ll find a thick grilled patty made in-house, like everything on the curated menu. It’s wrapped in prosciutto and drowned in melted Gorgonzola and served with frites and house-made ketchup, which tastes so healthy it feels as if I’m eating clean for just a split second. A few bites in, I had to put The Burger down and just nod at it to convey appreciation and respect. The friendly owner, Jerod, and staff work hard to provide a stellar experience. Oh, and by the way, they’ve got craft beer on beer on beer on beer! Dozens … close to 100 varieties. Culaccino opened around summer 2016 and weekends are fully booked. Check out this stunning restaurant and experience the best burger in Burlington!
Location, location, location. This long-time east-end favourite has a (posh, not kitschy) nautical theme, and it’s elegant and fun all wrapped in one. (It’s the photo featured at the very top). Plus, it’s located in the Oakville Entertainment Centrum - which we know isn’t an easy location for restos, or patrons trying to park. But this one is still going strong, making it the optimal place to start your night (dinner and a movie, everyone? … try driving into the Centrum around 8 p.m. on a weekend!) Head chef/owner Michel Fronteddu’s team uses the freshest, finest ingredients to hand-craft artisanal cuisine (from rolling gnocchi, churning gelato, to using homegrown organic herbs). There’s also a dedicated bar/lounge area, making it the perfect spot for martinis and appetizers, with plush seating throughout the resto. A massive renovation has only made this place better. Service is stellar, and so is essentially everything on the menu. But get the short ribs!
