They’re dark and they’re freshly marinated and the meat is amazingly tender and I want to run up and down Commercial St. yelling about how tasty these wings are. Luigi’s wings aren’t breaded … but they are baked then fried. I tried a few sauces (BBQ, hot, and honey garlic) then decided to eat them plain because they were just that damn delicious! This popular spot is gaining notoriety thanks to word of mouth. Go on and find out what all the fuss is about.
It’s a good thing I found out about these Zeppoline doughnuts after three celebratory birthday dinners, when I was all out of room for dessert … Tavolo, known for its perfectly perfect margherita pizza and fried calamari, also has a divine dessert offering: house-made doughnuts. They’re tossed in sugar and served atop Nutella and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. While I’ve never been a doughnut person (except at The Ex each summer, because Tiny Tom Donuts are a national treasure!), these will convert the saltiest salt enthusiast. (And if you’d prefer a more savoury treat, try the Zucchini Bruschetta, pictured at the top. It has diced yellow and green zucchini, red onion, goat cheese, and fresh basil on a toasted garlic crostini. Yum!)
The Mye Japanese restaurants are the best two Japanese restaurants in Oakville. Interestingly enough, the Mye brand has been around for close to 30 years. This is definitely more of fine dining option when it comes to Japanese food without breaking the bank. Mye 2 is located in a plaza on Trafalgar and Dundas and the interior is modern, open and very well lit so you can see the incredible food you are eating. We had the seven course-tasting menu that came with a little bit of everything. It started with sasuke, sunomono salad, sashimi, sushi, tempura and steak. Every single dish was mouth wateringly delicious at $49. We were there for lunch and they made it special for us, as it’s not on the lunch menu.
It’s a great little hidden gem with fabulous service and a flashy orange door, which is what drew us in. The bistro is known for its salads and crepes - Seafood or Chicken - and so it began … The Greens and Berries Salad is so fresh and light and lovely. It features mixed greens, fresh seasonal berries (I had strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries) with a yummy vinegar-heavy mission fig dressing and roasted pecans. The dish is technically served with blue cheese but staff were happy to sub goat cheese instead. (Mental note to eat here when I’ve got a business meeting booked right before the gym). The Chicken Crepe is also served with goat cheese, plus sauteed spinach and a house-smoked chicken breast in a tangy rose sauce. I’m a fan of crispier crepes but the sauce had me going back for more even though I was stuffed. The fries are amazing! And for dessert - they’re all made in-house, too - get the carrot cake … it has pineapple.
If the wide, wooden door and velvet curtains at the entrance don’t get you excited, you will be as soon as you’re seated. Bahn Thai’s modern, sexy vibe is punctuated by hot pink lighting, please-sit-super-close-to-me-so-our-knees-touch seating, and a dimly lit interior featuring circular booths, and benches with triangular pillows for lumbar support. It feels like a mini-vacation of sorts right in Towne Square. But you’re here for the food … the Fried Tofu and Taro were 50 per cent amazing — the taro was incredible but the tofu was a tad underwhelming. So I ate twice as much taro, dipping it in a honey-based sauce topped with peanuts. So, so good. If the name rings a bell, it’s because this long-running Burlington favourite on Fairview has been pleasing diners for 17 years (it’s been a decade in downtown Oakville). Popular appetizers include Thai Spring Rolls, Mango Salad, and Golden Squid (calamari). But if you really want to make the chef happy, order one of the Red Snapper dishes (such as Spicy Fish), which are doused in an outstanding red curry. For dessert, the sticky rice with mango is a no-brainer — it’s downright sinful.
