5 Mother's Day Ideas in Burlington

Mother’s Day is your mama's special day.

And if you haven't picked a gift, made reservations, or booked tickets don’t worry - there's still a lot you can do.

Everyone loves celebrating their mom by doing things with her that she'd love to do, even if it's as simple as giving her the day off from her mom duties and spending time with her.

But if you know she'd enjoy a good meal, or would love to go catch a performance or do something more outdoorsy - Burlington has something for almost every kind of activity.

What will you be doing this weekend?

For the mom who loves food

Is she a whiz in the kitchen? Give her a break!

It's always exciting with a mom who loves trying different cuisines. Take her on a food tour and let her enjoy a bite at the most unique local restaurants, meet chefs and learn more about what she loves - food. Burlington Food Tours begins tours in May and Food Tours Adventures is another company that helps you find all the hidden gems.

For the mom who loves history

A working museum of electric streetcars, railway vehicles, trolleybuses, the Halton County Radial Railway is a good choice to spend the day taking historic rides with a history lesson and scenic views. Grab an ice-cream and a snack for your ride and your mom will love the relaxing day.

If your mom would love a history lesson over drinks and dessert, then the Ireland House Museum is your best bet. A former homestead of the Ireland family, the museum hosts tours that are followed by a glass of champagne and desserts infused with champagne. Sounds yum!

For the mom who loves the outdoors

You can always stop and admire the flowers with mom at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG). If she’s already been there, done that then put on those hiking shoes and begin the Wildflower Walk for Mom offered at Milton’s Crawford Lake. Walk into the forest and take endless photos of wildflowers in all their glory. Just before the trees go into full-leaf, the forest floor has a wildflower riot under the sunny skies. And, end the walk with a light afternoon tea. You can also hike up to Rattlesnake Point and take a walk by the lake to cool off. Isn't it a great way to be outdoors with mom?

For the mom who loves the arts

A lovely symphony or a parody, what will your mom like? Burlington Performing Arts Centre has put up a show Symphony on the Bay - From Rags to Riches at 3 p.m., especially for Mother's Day. It will feature music by Gershwin, Bach, Elgar and more! You could also catch a parody of the 1950s 'whodunit' theatre mysteries, called Curtains playing at Drury Lane Theatre at 2 p.m.

For the mom who loves to eat out

An evening by the lake or a boozy brunch. You could never make mom upset with a meal out. Burlington Convention Centre has a special Mother's Day Brunch, which offers breakfast pastries, a waffle and an omelette station, a salad bar, carving stations, dessert bar and more. Of course, there are several other brunch spots in Burlington, including Spencer's at the Waterfront, which recently made it to Canada's 100 Best Brunch Restaurants for Mother's Day. Others include Barque (they serve smoked duck pancakes!), Culaccino (get the burger), Rust Bistro Bar, The Harvest Table and more.

For dinner, enjoy waterfront views at the Water Street Cooker along with some ribs, or head over to Stone House. Try Japanese and Korean food at Sakai or fabulous fare at the Martini House.
