It’s officially spring and what better way to celebrate than with a road trip?

Answer: there’s no better way! The weather is finally getting warmer, the days are longer, and it’s the perfect time to scope out all of the fresh blossoms in Halton and far beyond it.

Here are five places for an epic spring road trip outside of Halton:

5) Collingwood

This prime tourist spot is very picturesque, ideal for a fresh, spring trip! There are an abundance of ways you can enjoy spring in Collingwood. Indulge in a spring escape at Blue Mountain, strolling the days away and taking flower-filled pics for the ‘gram, take a break at Scandinave Spa which is said to be epic at any time of year, or grab a milkshake and scope out the arts and culture scene. There’s a lot to do here, even if you just want to stroll down the picturesque sidewalks and into little shops, just less than two hours away.

4) Kawartha Lakes

Farmers’ markets, festivals, cyclings, and blooms – that’s what you’ll find on your road trip to Kawartha Lakes. If you take Highway 11 north to Highway 12 Orillia, some say the spring colours are especially stunning. With 250 lakes and rivers, Kawartha Lakes is a pretty epic choice for a spring road trip – perfect for anyone looking for a little adventure and a lot of relaxation. Hungry? You can even take a butter tarts tour through Northumberland.

3) Leamington, Ont.

Located in Essex County, Leamington includes Point Pelee, the southernmost point of mainland Canada. The first new blooms of the season thrive here and it’s in the migratory path of dozens of bird species, according to the city, so you can see them flocking back for the warmer weather! There’s a lot to do here, too. Point Pelee National Park is in Leamington, so you can take a beautiful spring hike, or even stroll along Lake Erie.

2) Niagara Region – the Falls or Niagara-on-the-Lake

Check out the waterfront trail or the Apple Pie trail in Niagara-on-the-Lake for views of some of the best blooms Niagara region has to offer this spring. Niagara is also well-known for its daffodil and tulip blossoms starting in April, so it’s worth scoping out Queen Victoria Park or the botanical gardens on your trip, too. Overall, a trip to Niagara is ideal for anyone who wants to catch the first glimpses of beautiful flowers this spring – and hit up a winery while you’re at it.

1) Ottawa

Our nation’s capital is an epic spring road trip for a ton of reasons, mostly because there’s a lot to do and a lot to see. The snow is still on its way out of Ottawa, so you might want to wait a few weeks before taking this trip, but when you do, prepare to be happy with your decision! There are a ton of fun events coming up – like PoutineFest in April and it’s currently maple season – and one of the most epic spring events is the tulip festival, Ottawa’s big spring festival, perfect for flower-lovers and spring-lovers and everyone beyond and inbetween. Don’t forget you can explore the Rideau Canal after the snow melts, and tons of hiking and cycling trails so you can get outside this spring.
