It’s hard to ignore the fact that Valentine’s Day is coming up in Halton — chocolate, teddy bears and lovey-dovey heart decal displays have taken over retails spaces across the city. Whether you’re a Valentine’s Day lover or hater, one thing is for sure…no one can escape the hype!

For all you hopeless romantics and all of you on team Valentine’s-is-a-Hallmark-holiday, it’s still fun to plan a hot date with your loved one.

Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, Feb. 14 this year, so here are five ideas for a Valentine’s date in Halton.

5. Get a couple’s massage

A massage is always a good idea, and around this time of year, spas are offering some pretty sweet deals on Valentine’s packages. You could hit up Rosewater Spa in Oakville, get a date night Swedish massage and pedicure elsewhere, or pick one of the Valentine’s specials, such as a hot stone massage and express facial at your SO’s favourite spot. Whatever you decide, this is a great Valentine’s date choice for the couple that needs to relax and be pampered. Treat yo’selves!

4. Check out an exhibit

How about a dose of culture and a leisurely stroll for Valentine’s Day? You could grab a hot chocolate from Kelly’s (while you’re there, just get dessert) or a steamy latte from Pane Fresco and head over to the Art Gallery of Burlington  — all in the downtown core — to check out the latest art exhibitions … and find out what’s happening in the tea world. That’s right, there’s an exhibit titled Suited to a Tea: Forty Years – Forty Teapots. For the politicos and history buffs, there’s Prime Time, Canada’s 23 Prime Ministers. It provides a visual chronology using a pop art filter with works created by Julio Ferrer. For those slightly more materialistic, the gift shop is filled with uniquely beautiful souvenirs. It’s sure to be an artsy date. If you’d prefer nature, why not head to the frogs exhibit at RBG and marvel at their beauty?

3. Book a special Valentine’s Day dinner

Surprise your boo with a reservation at one of the hottest fine dining restaurants for a true Halton culinary experience! While some might think Valentine’s Day dinner is overdone, it’s actually an intimate experience — you and your date have over an hour to connect over a nice meal. Implement a ‘no phones allowed’ rule and you’re set! You could book a fancy Italian evening at Trattoria Timone in Oakville, a cozy night at La Toscana in Milton, or head out to West Plains Bistro in Burlington for French cuisine and share their desserts for Valentine’s menu. There’s always a great time to be had at Marquee in Milton. The possibilities are endless … basically.

2. Go skating

Halton has so many skating rinks — and Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to use one! If you’re looking for a date on a budget, head to Rotary Centennial Pond in Burlington for a cute, budget-friendly evening of ice skating, hopefully some hand holding, and if you’re lucky, a smooch or two. Bear in mind that outdoor skating is open for the season, weather permitting. Here are more rinks in the city.

1. Get active

For the active and adventurous couple, or the couple just looking to try something new, there are a ton of fun, active things you can plan for a date in Halton. Sweep your Valentine off their feet at Rockin’ Jump Trampoline Park, get lost and find your way out of an escape room together at Exit Strategy, throw axes on a double date at Bad Axe Throwing, or chase each other around at Laser Quest. Finally, a run together in beautiful Bronte Harbour or a hike at serene little Lions Valley could make for a fun way to sweat together. You’re bound to have a unique and fun time with your date, and maybe you can grab a pizza or wings afterwards.
