‘500 Year Itch’ opens Art Gallery of Hamilton’s Winter Exhibition Saturday

The 500 Year Itch and Living and Lost Connections will be in the spotlight Saturday afternoon when the Art Gallery of Hamilton celebrates the opening of its Winter Exhibition.

Hamilton art lovers can meet Shelly Niro (500 Year Itch) and see the her work and that of Alex Jacobs-Blum (Living and Lost Connections) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a public reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Niro, a renowned Mohawk artist, and the three curators of her retrospective exhibition (Melissa Bennett, Greg Hill and David Penney), will also be available to discuss her exhibition, which runs from February 10 to May 26.

This will be a “unique opportunity” to celebrate the opening of the ground-breaking exhibition with the people who brought it to life who will reveal anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories of the making of the 500 Year Itch exhibit, the gallery declared.

Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch is currently on a multi-year tour across North America, with its first stop having at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in New York City later. The Art Gallery of Hamilton version, which has doubled in size since New York, is the first Canadian stop.
