511 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario, 530 total cases confirmed in Halton

The province says that 511 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ontario and that over 1,100 residents have died of the virus.

Models recently released by the province also suggested that Ontario has reached its peak in the pandemic. 

As of May 2, Ontario is reporting 17,119 cases of the novel coronavirus in the province. The province says 1,176 people have died of the disease, while another 11,390 cases have been resolved.

The province says 977 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 221 being treated in intensive care units. The website says 154 patients are currently using ventilators. 

According to the website, 310,359 people have been tested for the virus and 12,829 possible cases are under investigation. The website says 16,305 tests have been completed in the last day. 

According to Halton Region’s COVID-19 website (which was updated on May 2), 470 people have been diagnosed in the region and 22 people have died of the virus. There are 60 probable cases.

There are currently 106 cases in Burlington, 178 in Oakville, 118 in Milton, and 126 in Halton Hills.

The website says seven deaths have occurred in Burlington. Two deaths have been reported in Oakville, three in Milton and 10 deaths have been reported in Halton Hills. 

At this time, 380 cases have reportedly resulted in a recovery.

Among the total cases, 73 (14%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak, and among the total deaths, 11 (50%) have been residents or patients associated with a confirmed institutional outbreak.

The region states that municipality counts may be inflated by outbreaks occurring in institutions located in their boundaries.

The province and region are continuing to update their numbers on a daily basis.
