Steps are being taken to make a Burlington retirement home become a reality.

City of Burlington planners are recommending approval of the plan that would see a 7-storey building go up on the property located at the northwest corner of New St. and Cumberland Ave. in the Port Nelson community.

The plan will still have to be approved by City council before it can proceed.

The proposal calls for approximately 124 suites in the building with a large, landscaped area surrounding the structure and underground parking. There would be two entrances, one on Cumberland and the other on New.

Currently, several older homes occupy the site.

The development will require changes to Burlington’s official plan and zoning bylaw before it can proceed.

A hybrid public meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 9:30 a.m. In-person the meeting will be held at City Hall while.
