A new townhouse development may be coming to the town of Oakville.

Earlier this year, in a previous inhalton article, it was noted that the town of Oakville received an application regarding a proposed zoning by-law amendment and a plan for a subdivision.

The proposed subdivision would consist of a townhouse development with four street-facing units.

The proposed location of this subdivision is 47 Nelson St., – located on the east side of Nelson Street and south of Marine Drive.

“The subject lands are located in the southern portion of the Bronte Village Growth Centre community which is comprised of residential, retail and commercial uses within a variety of low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise buildings,” states the Urban Design Brief. “The Bronte Village community is earmarked for growth in the form of mixed-use development along Bronte Road and Lakeshore Road West while allowing for modest intensification outside of the Bronte Village Main Street District.”

Currently, there is a single-family dwelling with a detached garage on the land in question. 

If the application is approved, this would permit the demolition of the existing home and allow for the construction of the proposed development.

And, it was recently revealed that Oakville town council has passed the zoning by-law amendment, as amended, regarding this application.

So, what exactly does this mean?

“The purpose and effect of zoning by-law 2019-029 is to allow for the development of four street townhouses at 47 Nelson Street,” reads a recent news release from the town.

And more specifically, according to the town, council’s decision will allow for the site to be rezoned from ‘existing development’ to ‘residential medium’ with a revised special provision that reflects the existing lot.

“Council has fully considered all the written and oral submissions relating to this matter and that those comments have been appropriately addressed,” reads the release.

However, anyone who wishes to appeal the development can do so by filing an appeal with the town clerk.

The last day to file a notice of appeal is June 13, 2019.
