The results are in! The 2019 Citizen Survey shows that the overall satisfaction of Oakville remains high.

Around eighty per cent of Oakville residents expressed overall satisfaction with the government, which is consistent with the ratings from the 2017 Citizen Survey.

Many residents also call Oakville a great place to live, with around ninety per cent of residents stating that they feel a strong sense of belonging and safety in the town. There is also a high satisfaction with town services.

The survey is conducted every two years and tracks the overall satisfaction of town programs and services. It helps to identify emerging issues important to the community and set future strategic priorities.

Mayor Rob Burton says, “engaging with our residents is absolutely critical for Council to continually improve Oakville’s livability. This year’s survey results can also help inform the provincial government’s ongoing review of regional municipalities when they evaluate Oakville’s governance, decision-making and service delivery.”

The highest levels of satisfaction with town attributes were feelings of belonging and safety, overall appearance and protection of heritage. The town’s top rated services include parks and green spaces, public libraries and recreation fields and facilities.

To help the town in planning for the future, residents were also asked to choose which priority they would like the town to focus on most. The top three priorities were controlling growth in population, maintaining the natural environment and ease of travelling.

As part of the 2019 Citizen Survey process, Pollara Strategic Insights conducted a telephone survey on the town’s behalf in January to February. There was also conducted an online survey to get feedback about town programs, services and more. Over seven hundred responses were received in the two months.
