Air Canada will no longer be using gender-specific terms during boarding announcements.

Traditionally, the airline and its staff would refer to passengers as “ladies” and “gentlemen”, but will now be addressing them with neutral and inclusive terms such as “everyone.”

“We will be amending our onboard announcements to modernize them and remove specific references to gender,” a media spokesperson for the company said in an email to CTV News.

“We work hard to make sure all employees feel like valued members of the Air Canada family, while ensuring our customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us.”

This new policy has resulted in some mixed reviews on social media. While some are impressed with its progressiveness, many are upset and even offended.

Air Canada has not yet announced when these changes will take effect.
