A dump truck has struck a hydro pole outside of Milton, cutting off the town’s internet access and blocking off access to Hwy. 407.

According to Halton Regional Police, the dump truck hit a hydro pole on the side of Hwy. 25 by the off-ramp to Hwy. 407. The pole has since tilted off at an angle.

As result, police have shut down the Hwy. 25 and Hwy 407 intersection until the crash can be safely cleaned up. While they did not share a specific estimated time of repair, they did advise motorists to expect major delays.

Additionally, the damage to the hydro pole has affected internet service in town. Police have warned customers to expect outages throughout the evening.

Update 6:30 p.m.: Internet service provider Cogeco has commented on the outage. They said service has been disrupted to Acton, Elora, Fergus, Georgetown, Milton and Rockwood because the crash severed a vital fibre optic cable.

They confirmed repair crews are on the scene working to repair the outage “as fast as possible.” However, as of their update there is still no estimated time of repair. However, Cogeco said it will provide more information when it becomes available.
