A deal set up online for a used vehicle in Oakville ended up leaving the purchaser with no new car and without their money.

Halton Regional Police are investigating after the victim noticed an ad on Facebook Marketplace and arranged a deal to purchase a 2016 Lexus 200T from the seller.

Police said the two agreed to meet at a location on Dorval Dr. around 8 p.m. on Wednesday (April 26).

The victim paid the seller $18,000 for the used vehicle. Following the exchange of money, both parties got into the Lexus and headed toward another location.

“The seller pulled off to put the plates on the vehicle,” explained Halton Regional Police Cst. Steve Elms, who added both parties got out of the car at a location in the area of 1530 North Service Rd. W.

Once both were out of the car, the suspect made his move.

“The seller than entered the vehicle and fled,” added Elms.

The victim, police said, was left without his $18,000 and the 2016 Lexus 200T.

The suspect is described by police as being a male, black and approximately 25 years old.

There is no description of the license plate.
