Apartment and townhome complex will replace two Burlington plazas

Mid-rise apartment buildings and townhomes will spring up on the site of two old Burlington plazas.
A deal reached between Coletara Development and the City of Burlington will see the buildings go up on both plazas located on opposite sides of Downsview Dr. at the corner of Plains Rd. E.
The agreement will see a 9-storey building at what is now 1010 Downsview Dr. As well, an 11-storey and a 9-storey structure will be built at 355 Plains Rd. E. Three-storey townhomes will also be part of the project on both sides of the street.
In total, there will be 484 apartment units created and 96 townhomes.
The new arrangement will also increase commercial space on the ground floor of each project, more than what was originally proposed, and the main entrance to the buildings will now be off Downsview Dr.
The existing plazas are still home to several businesses including a coffee shop, furniture store, fitness centre, restaurant and a daycare centre.
Changes to the land use must still be approved by the Ontario Land Tribunal but that is expected to be achieved.
There is no timeline for when the project will begin.
