A Burlington neighbourhood will soon see a mid-rise apartment building on the site where seven houses now stand.

A deal worked out between the developer and the City through the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) process will see slight changes to the original plan to build on the southside Plains Rd. E. between Birchwood Ave. and Lasalle Park Rd.

The apartment will now rise to 12-storeys and contain 389 residential units. Previous plans called for a 10-storey structure with 423 units.

Other changes will see increased space for non-residential use and a larger setback from the rear lot line near the backyards of residential units to the south.

The seven houses that will be torn down to make way for the new structure are single detached two-storey dwellings.

During a hearing before the OLT a spokesperson for the builder pointed out the area where the apartment will go is in transition with other mid to high-rise development projects approved on Plains Rd. E.. These include an 18-storey tower atop an 11-storey base on the northeast corner of Plains Rd. E. and Cooke Blvd., a 9-storey building on the northwest corner of Plains and Cooke, and another 9-storey mixed-use building with retail and commercial spaces
