Another new cannabis store set to open in Mississauga

Two cannabis shops operated by the same company in Burlington were the targets of arson overnight.

Reports indicate that fires were deliberating set at both Canna Cabana shops; first at the store located on Guelph Line then later at the Upper Middle Rd. shop.

Halton Regional Police say witnesses heard glass shatter and then saw fire at the store at 2400 Guelph Line around 4:20 a.m. this morning (Aug. 22).

An investigation determined that a brick had been thrown through the window of the store and a man was observed pouring liquid into the store and then igniting it. The person fleeing the scene was a Black male driving a light-coloured van.

Then, at 4:25 a.m. police say a fire was lit at the shop located at 3505 Upper Middle Rd. There are no further details about this incident.

In both cases, the Burlington Fire Department arrived at the scene to put out the flames. Both stores appear to be operating today.

The owner of both stores, High Tide Inc. is one the largest cannabis companies in Canada. Its subsidiary, Canna Cabana, is a non-franchised chain with stores at 150 locations across the country. A spokesperson for the company could not be reached for comment.

Halton police are continuing the investigation into both cases and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has also been contacted.
