A Brampton man accused of killing an Oakville senior in an unprovoked attack almost three years ago has pled guilty.

Dazel Henry, 25, pled guilty Wednesday morning to the second-degree murder of 91-year-old Edmund Ferrari in a Milton virtual court just as his trial was set to begin.

Henry was initially facing first-degree charges before the Crown agreed to the lesser plea.

He now faces an automatic life sentence with a judge set to determine a parole inaccessibility period between 10 and 25 years. An American citizen, Henry will also have to face immigration consequences and deportation.

According to the facts, Ferrari left his retirement home and went for a walk on the afternoon of Aug. 24, 2019 when he was approached by a stranger on Church St., just north of Lakeshore Road East.

Henry admitted thrusting a knife into Ferrari’s chest before fleeing the scene.

Ferrari would be pronounced dead at the scene.

Henry is set to be back in court on Jan. 31.
