The Brooklin Fair is well under way but there is still an entire weekend to enjoy the sights, sounds – and smells – of the country, just minutes from the city.

The long-running fair – it had its start in 1911 as a one-day event – is now one of the biggest spring fairs in the province, attracting 30,000 fans or more over its four days each year.

Brooklin Fair President Nicole Scott officially opened the fair Thursday, along with her parents Ron and Maureen Jackson, who are this year’s Grand Marshalls.

All hands were on deck for the opening of the Brooklin Fair Thursday

Most of the crowd favourites are back this year, including the midway, the RAM Rodeo Tour competition, the creative corner, the Truck and Tractor Pull (7 p.m. tonight), carriage racing, a youth talent competition and agriculture shows and competitions from everything from draft horses and dairy cattle to rabbits.

There will also be pie-eating contests, spelling bees, equestrian demonstrations and the annual parade and live music from bands such as The Doozies (5:30 p.m. Saturday) and Two For the Show (9:30 p.m. today).
