Burlington birthday party murderer back behind bars after prison escape

A man convicted of killing the guest of honour at a Burlington birthday party is back behind bars after a brief escape from a Kingston prison.

Joshua Kenneth Kohl, 42, has been re-arrested after slipping past prison security Tuesday night.

He was discovered missing at Collins Bay Institution during a routine check.

The Ontario Provincial Police say he was arrested without incident earlier today (May 17).

It was in March of 2002 that Kohl took part in the beating death of Robert Zeszutek at Zeszutek’s 40th birthday party at the Burlington Square Residences on Ghent Ave.

Zeszutek, a postal worker, died as a result of injuries sustained in the beating after partying with Kohl and other guests.

Before a judge, Kohl pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and continues to serve his sentence. Two other people — Amanda Bisson and Brandon Hill — pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

In the bulletin released while Kohl was at large, police warned that he could pose a safety risk to those who encountered him.
