A 73-year-old grandfather of nine matched six of seven Encore lotto numbers in the exact order, winning him $100,000.

The winning ticket for the July 11 Lotto 6/49 draw was purchased by Edward Jasper at Merchant’s Convenience on Plains Rd in Burlington.

“I used the Ticket Checker to scan my ticket, and then I double-checked it,” he shared, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque. “I handed my ticket to the cashier and the terminal froze and she was more excited than I was.”

Edward’s wife was waiting for him and he had to apologize for keeping her waiting for so long.

“I said, ‘I’m sorry I kept you waiting for so long, but we just won $100,000,’” he laughed. “At first she thought I was pulling her leg until I showed her the validation slip. Then she got excited.”

The retired scrap-yard superintendent is excited to share his winnings with his family. He is also considering purchasing a new car and making some improvements to his condo.

“It’s a good way to enjoy a little more freedom at this stage in my life. I never thought this would happen,” he concluded.

The OLG Prize Centre in Toronto is accepting in-person prize claim appointments for winning-ticket holders of $10,000 or more. Appointments for prizes of this value will be granted if requested, however, prizes up to $49,999.90 do not have to be claimed in-person and customers are encouraged to continue to mail in the claims when possible.
