Burlington man among six arrested at Toronto ‘Walk with Israel’ event

A Burlington man was one of six people arrested and charged at the Walk with Israel event held Sunday (June 9) in North York.

Thousands attended the 55 annual walk which took place in the area of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue.

Toronto Police allege that the accused were in the area and are facing a number of charges in connection to acts during the event they said “displayed antisemitic messaging calling for violence.

Omar Elkhawass, 22, of Burlington has been charged with mischief interfere with property.

Elkhawass is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2 p.m.

Other alleged incidents include a 75-year-old Toronto man being charged with assault after he “intentionally bumped” into a woman who was wearing a keffiyeh and a 27-year-old man allegedly throwing an Israeli flag on the ground stomping on it.
