You can now pay for rides on Burlington Transit through the PRESTO device.

Starting today you can pay through PRESTO by tapping a credit card or with your smartphone or smartwatch (if they are credit card enabled).

The pay system is also new for Hamilton Street Railway and has been launched on transit services in York and Durham Regions.

Only adult standard fares can be paid with a credit card tap.

“This latest milestone in the continuous advancement of the PRESTO system will provide users greater ease and convenience when travelling for work, school, leisure, and more,” said Stan Cho, Associate Minister of Transportation.

The expansion of credit payment on PRESTO devices began in 2021 on the Union Pearson (UP) Express. In 2022, the option was extended to the entire GO Transit network and the Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville transit systems.

Queen’s Park is also working on expanding the credit card payment system to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and to introduce debit-tapping payment capability to all transit agencies in the GTHA.

“Adding the credit card tap option to Burlington Transit fares means fewer barriers to getting on the bus, especially for new users, leading to more transit use, less emissions and a greener city. Exactly what we need.” said Burlington Ward 3 Councillor Rory Nisan.
