Change in schedule means no lane closures on Burlington Skyway this weekend

Burlington Skyway Niagara bound lanes closed

In another in an ongoing season of reversals, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) now says there will be no lane closures on the Burlington Skyway this weekend (Sept. 23-24).

This means there will be no traffic disruptions in either the Niagara-bound or Toronto-bound lanes.

The MTO released the updated information today after earlier this week stating lanes would be closed overnight on Saturday to continue with repair work.

The work along the bridge in the Niagara-bound lanes has been ongoing for most of the summer. This has led to intermittent lane closures but has confused drivers because the schedule keeps changing.

When the project began, complaints from Niagara politicians about disruption to tourist traffic led the MTO to adjust its work schedule. As well, the weather has also caused some work to be cancelled. As a result, the project, which should have been completed by now, is ongoing.

The MTO says the lanes closures are necessary for workers to make repairs to the aging bridge.

The next scheduled lane closures is for Sept. 30 (but that could change).
