Charges laid in Oakville labour trafficking investigation: Halton Police

The Halton Regional Police Service Drug and Human Trafficking Unit has made an arrest in regards to a labour trafficking investigation in Oakville. 

The Halton Regional Police Service Drug and Human Trafficking Unit has made an arrest in regards to a labour trafficking investigation in Oakville. 

Earlier in Feb., police say they received information regarding a female victim who was targeted and brought to Canada from Cyprus under the promise of a high paying job and the opportunity to become a permanent resident.

Throughout the victim’s time in Canada, however, she was allegedly threatened, assaulted, and exploited while as a live-in nanny and caregiver at a private residence in Oakville. 

Arrested and Charged:

Manju Kanwar (female), 52,  of Oakville

  • Trafficking in Persons
  • Receive Material Benefit
  • Fraud Over $5000
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death
  • Assault

Kanwar was released on an undertaking, according to Halton Police.

Police believe there may be additional victims.
