Lanes were closed on Highway 401 in Milton after a head-on crash.

A wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle on Hwy. 401 near Guelph Line this morning (Aug. 14), OPP said in a tweet around 6:30 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle travelling in the correct direction was sent to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The collision happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 401. All westbound lanes were closed at Guelph Line.

The wrong-way driver is now in custody, police say. Police suspect impaired driving was a factor in the crash.

Both drivers were reportedly in their 30s.

The westbound lanes were expected to be closed for several hours for the crash investigation.

Update: All lanes have reopened, police said in a tweet around 12:30 p.m. The wrong-way driver was charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol over the legal limit, police said.
