Milton residents can say goodbye to an old section of Peru Rd. but with the expectation of a new interchange at Highway 401.

The Town has announced the permanent closure of the section of Peru to accommodate the realignments of Tremaine Rd. and a portion of the Sixteen Mile Creek. These moves will eventually lead to the creation of the new 401 interchange at the redesigned Tremaine.

The part of Peru that will close was an old section that literally went nowhere, just north of No. 3 Side Rd. One of the town’s oldest roads, Peru ends at the 401 and circles back. However, at one time, before the creation of the 401, the road went right through.

Halton Region has recently built a temporary two-lane rural roadway ‘Street A’ to detour the traffic on Peru and No. 3 Side Rd. In addition, Halton Region’s contractor, Dufferin Construction, will start the ‘Street A’ connection at Peru Rd this week. These works will take approximately two weeks and once the road connection is complete, the traffic on Peru Road and No. 3 Side Road will be rerouted to ‘Street A.’

The section of Peru that will permanently close will take place Oct. 16.
