There were 600 new COVID-19 cases in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills yesterday, a number most feel is a drop in the bucket.

Officially, however, there were 230 cases in Oakville, 200 in Burlington, 131 in Milton, and 39 in Halton Hills.

What the provincial government has said is a more important number to track is hospitalizations and there are currently 126 confirmed hospital cases in the region. At least 13 of those are in the ICU.

By community, Oakville-Trafalgar has 66 patients, 37 at Joseph Brant, 16 at Milton District and seven at Georgetown.

Although the province is breaking down hospital cases by vaccination status, a spokesperson from Jo Brant said they were not authorized to do that at the local level for patient privacy.

There were 8,229 vaccine doses given in Halton yesterday, 7838 of them were third, or booster, shots.

Currently, there are 40 declared outbreaks at institutions and congregate living centres in Halton.

The largest is at Maplehurst Correctional Facility in Milton, with 119 cases. Other large outbreaks are at long-term care centres, including 39 people at Chartwell Brant Centre, 22 at Creek Way Village, 46 at Maple Villa, 27 at Northridge and 47 at Rivera Burloak,
