Local artists can submit their photo-based temporary public artwork idea by March 1 for a chance to be featured in the Town's Connextions public art installation on prominent windows at recreation and culture centres across Oakville. TOWN OF OAKVILLE PHOTO

Calling all artists, here’s your opportunity to apply your artistic flair on Oakville.

The Town is inviting professional artists to submit photo-based artwork to be digitally reproduced as window murals in its Connextions public art installation at local recreation and culture centres.

The completed artwork will be a digital photo-based mural that will be printed onto vinyl media that will cover large windows.

The work will be displayed from May 1, 2023 and the commissioned artists will receive $800 (includes HST) per location.

Proposals will be assessed based on artistic merit, relevance of the proposed artwork to a facility and demonstrated capacity to complete the project.

“The selected proposals will engage the local community and reflect on the community,” said the Town.

The group exhibition will run from May 1 to December, 2023, coinciding with the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival (May 2023) and Culture Days Festival (Sept. 22 to Oct. 15), a national celebration of arts and culture.

Artists will be allowed to create work specifically for this call or reformat existing work. The work must be a photo-based artwork provided as high-resolution digital files suitable for large format printing.

The town will be responsible for the fabrication and installation of the vinyl media.

While the call is open to professional artists living within the Greater Toronto Area community, artists with demonstrated connections to Oakville will be given priority.

Deadline to get submit work in is March 1, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. EST.

The window mural installations are planned for the following recreation facility locations:

  • Glen Abbey Community Centre, 1415 Third Line
  • Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, 1051 Glenashton Dr.
  • Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre, 325 Reynolds St.
  • Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd.
  • River Oaks Community Centre, 2400 Sixth Line
  • Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 2070 Neyagawa Blvd.
  • Trafalgar Park Community Centre, 133 Rebecca St.

Project locations may be adjusted pending artist submissions.
