Burlington tower condo development OLT

One of Burlington’s largest development projects has taken a step towards becoming a reality.

The neighbourhood-transforming project proposed for Fairview St. and Oval Crt. (north side of Fairview between
Appleby Line and Sherwood Forest Park) calls for eight condo towers ranging from 11 to 30 storeys and containing almost 2,000 residential units.

A dispute between Branthaven Development Corporation and the City of Burlington which held up the project has been settled and only a few technical hurdles have to be cleared before the work can proceed.

The deal struck will see changes to the original plan and now calls for the removal of the Oval Crt. extension to the north of the project, the creation of a pedestrian promenade linking Sherwood Forest Park to the proposed development, and changes to the parking garage, among others.

You can read the complete settlement deal here.

The dispute was headed to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) for adjudication but now the sides will meet with the OLT to formalize the settlement and to seek approval to rezone the area.

Along with the housing, the 4.24-hectare (10.4 acre) site will also be home to stores, offices, a daycare centre and a library.

Currently, offices and industrial buildings occupy the site.

Other than the issues that kept the sides apart, the City has been satisfied with the development in that it is consistent with meeting local housing needs.
