It once was the site of the old Georgetown Memorial Arena but work is now underway to turn it into three multi-storey residential buildings.

The work that is being carried out at Mills Street and Dayfoot Drive will create two six-storey buildings and one of five stories and when complete will accommodate about 275 living units.

As part of the work, Mill Street between Guelph Street (Hwy. 7) and Dayfoot Drive will be closed through traffic on Thursday, March 28, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to erect a tower crane that will assist with the construction.

The arena stood at the site for 91 years, first opening in 1923 where it soon became a popular community hub hosting generations of hockey players and fans until it closed in 2013.
