With the Town of Oakville declaring a climate emergency for over two years now, the move to electric vehicles is more important than ever.

A total of 50 per cent of our emissions in Oakville are from the transportation sector and with the town making a move to electric buses many residents are also looking to electrify their ride.

To help you understand what a move to an electric vehicle entails, Oakville Hydro has partnered with Plug’N Drive to bring the world’s first elective vehicle (EV) discovery centre to town. Plug’N Drive is a non-profit organization working to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly electric vehicles.

From Aug. 3 to 27, Thursday to Sunday, local residents can meet with an EV ambassador or take a test drive at the Glen Abbey Community Centre, located at 1415 Third Line.

Electric cars available for a test drive include a Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Hyundai IONIQ 6, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Polestar 2 (pictured below) and a Volvo C40.

“Meet Plug’n Drive EV ambassadors, get your questions answered and take test drives in some of the latest EV models from leading manufacturers,” said Oakville Hydro. “After your visit, we’re confident you’ll understand why it’s time to electrify your ride.”

On hand will also be interactive learning displays that cover the environmental and economic benefits of driving electric, an EV charging station showcase and materials residents can take home that contains all you need to know about electric cars.

All EV ambassadors are Plug’n Drive trained and many are EV drivers who can speak to their real-life experiences driving electric. All the information provided is based on extensive data using real-world data.

While the test drive cars on-site are limited, they support every EV make and model on the market.

Bookings are available Thursday to Sunday, beginning Aug. 3. Oakville Hydro representatives will be on site Thursdays to Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. to answer all electrical service inquiries.
