Truck stolen in Oakville smashes into police cars

A 26-year-old Etobicoke man has been charged after a pickup truck was stolen from an Oakville residence and then smashed into police vehicles – striking four officers – in a commercial parking lot in Etobicoke.

Halton Regional Police received a call from a victim on Tuesday morning (April 11) around 8:30 a.m. who discovered their Ford F-150 pickup was missing from their Oakville driveway.

Using the GPS device in the vehicle, police were able to locate the stolen vacant pickup parked in a commercial parking lot in Etobicoke.

The suspect eventually returned and got into the driver’s seat of the truck, before Halton officers then moved in and attempted to arrest the man.

Police say the suspect ignored their commands and, in an attempt to get away, drove the drove the truck into police vehicles and struck four officers.

Police were able to stop the stolen truck through the use of tire deflation devices and take the suspect into custody.

No injuries were sustained to any officers or the suspect.

Police found two knives on the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Ryan Nesbitt, 26, of Etobicoke was arrested and has been charged with the following:

• Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime
• Assault with a Weapon (4 counts)
• Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Weapon (2 Counts)
• Possession of Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order (4 counts)
• Escape Lawful Custody
• Flight from Police Officer
• Dangerous Operation
• Operation While Prohibited (2 Counts)
• Fail to Stop After Accident

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.
