Exciting and Healthy Program Launches in Burlington
There's no doubt that walking will not only help a person's physical health but their mental health as well. And the City of Burlington is encouraging residents to take control of their health.
In order to help residents, a new walking program has launched in the city. This program is known as Just Walk Hamilton-Burlington - an outdoor community walking program led by local healthcare professionals.
As a result of the program, the City of Burlington is now part of a growing list of communities affiliated with the global Walk with a Doc organization - an organization that works to bring communities together by establishing safe environments where people can experience health and inspiration.
"Walk with a Doc is honored to team up with the City of Burlington and Burlington healthcare professionals to provide regular opportunities for community members to get together and, well, just walk," Dr. David Sabgir, founder of Walk with a Doc, said in a press release.
"There is no simpler, more beneficial activity than walking when it comes to maintaining or improving physical fitness and mental well-being."
The new Burlington program, with support from the city's Neighbourhood Community Matching Fund, will be hosting 12 walks in the city between February and September.
The first walk of 2019 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. with physiotherapist Jake Tumber. The walk, which will be free and supervised, will take place at City View Park, 2500 Kerns Rd., in Burlington.
Pre-registration is not required.
Residents are to meet Tumber and the Just Walk team at the north parking lot by the soccer fields at City View Park. The walk will start with a short educational talk on walking mindfulness followed by a guided walk.
