False fire causes woman to jump from balcony in Oakville; charges laid

Halton Regional Police laid charges on a man accused of pulling the fire alarm in an Oakville apartment building, resulting in a woman jumping from her balcony.

Halton Regional Police laid charges on a man accused of pulling the fire alarm in an Oakville apartment building, resulting in a woman jumping from her balcony.

On July 18, police responded to reports of an early morning fire at an apartment complex on Churchill Ave. 

“The fire alarm had been pulled and an extinguisher had been deployed on the second floor causing tenants to fear for their safety,” said police. “As a result, several occupants were evacuated and a woman was injured after jumping from the second storey. “

Police said they determined at no point was there a fire in the building.

They located and arrested the man they believe was responsible for pulling the fire alarm and deploying the extinguisher.

Ronald Gordon, 51, of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm
  • Mischief
  • Fail to comply with a Probation Order

Gordon was held pending a bail hearing.
