A famous luxury bakery specializing in French desserts has expanded outside of Toronto for the first time with a new shop opening in Oakville.

The Nadège Patisserie has opened a new location at 249 Lakeshore Rd. which opened on Apr. 21. The dessert shop previously had five locations across Toronto before adding the latest spot. The shops were founded by their namesake Nadège Nourian, a fourth-generation pastry chef from Lyon, France.

Nourian cut her teeth in acclaimed and Michelin-starred restaurants before opening her first location in Toronto alongside local artist Morgan McHugh, another descendant of a foodie family. McHugh’s father previously owned Yorkville’s famous Penny Farthing Café in the 1960s.

The pair met while living in London, UK and together dreamed of opening their own patisserie. They unveiled their first location in Toronto in 2009 and have since expanded into multiple locations across the city.

“Showered with numerous accolades from critics, the press, and the blogosphere, Nadège is clearly viewed as a game changer in Toronto’s pastry scene,” the shop’s website reads.

The shop’s primary focus is baked desserts such as macarons, large and small cakes, gourmet chocolates, croissants, chocolatines, and cookies. They also feature a variety of ice creams and sorbets (in pints, bars, and sandwiches), bonbons, and bread.

The shops are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily but interested foodies may want to stop by early as all products are first come, first served. Customers can also call in a special order but must allow the chefs at least 36 hours’ notice to prepare it.
