A Georgetown man was killed in a traffic collision in Halton Hills yesterday and police are reaching out for witnesses.

On Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 4:40 pm, Halton police responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 17 Side Road and Trafalgar Rd.

The collision occurred when a Ford Taurus, driving westbound on 17-Side Road, attempted to turn left onto Trafalgar Road in front of a northbound Mazda CX5.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, a 76 year-old Georgetown male, was rushed to hospital, but died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 64-year-old female from Acton, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Police believe, however, the northbound Mazda had the right of way at the signalized intersection.

The collision was witnessed by a number of people, many of whom remained at the scene to provide aid to the involved drivers and provided witness statements to police.

The intersection was closed until around 8 p.m. for the collision investigation.

Any witnesses who have not provided statements to police, are requested to contact the Halton Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747, ext 5065.
