First heat warning of the year coming to Mississauga, Brampton and Hamilton

It’s going to get hot for the next few days in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and the GTHA.

There will be a two-day heat event beginning Thursday.

Environment Canada says maximum temperatures will hit 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures will be 17 to 20 degrees Celsius.

It could feel as hot as 36c.

Environment Canada says daytime high temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius today through Friday. Overnight temperatures are expected to be near 15 degrees Celsius, below heat warning criteria.

Overnight temperatures Thursday night are expected to be in the high teens, but cooler temperatures will return on Saturday.

The risks of extreme heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

People who will be spending time outdoors are advised to drink plenty of water before feeling thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Residents are reminded to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
