Foodland retailer awards presented to grocers in Oakville, Burlington, Georgetown

Grocery stores in Oakville, Burlington and Georgetown are among the 61 retailers in the province to be presented recently with 2022 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards.

Every year the Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards Program recognizes grocery retailers’ efforts to raise community awareness about the diversity of foods locally grown and harvested in the province.

“Their store displays increase consumer awareness and education about the diversity of fruits and vegetables grown in Ontario,” said Foodland Ontario.

Four local grocery stores were presented with awards.

Among this year’s Platinum All Seasons Award winners is the Metro location at 367 Mountainview Rd. S in Georgetown. The award recognizes merchandising excellence through three seasonal groupings (spring, summer and fall/winter).

The Metro store located at 2010 Appleby Line in Burlington was given the Gold Creative Category Award. This is presented to chain and independent stores in three specific categories (creative, seasonal and cross-merchandised.

A pair of Oakville’s Longo’s stores was presented with the Silver Award of Merit. Longo’s Burloak, located at the RioCan Centre Burloak at 3455 Wyecroft Rd., and Longo’s Southeast, located at 469 Cornwall Rd., were both winners of the award which celebrates excellence in promoting Ontario produce in a display.

“On behalf of (Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Ontario) Lisa Thompson, I was honoured to present a 2022 Foodland Ontario Retailer Award to store manager Paolo Leone and produce manager Ryan,” said Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford on Twitter.

Every year stores submit photographs of their promotional displays to qualify for the awards, and the winners are selected by a panel.

The Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards are presented by the Ontario government in partnership with the Asparagus Farmers of Ontario, Ontario Apple Growers, Berry Growers of Ontario, Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers and Ontario Tender Fruit Growers.
