Better plan ahead if you’re making a trip to Toronto this weekend as thousands of cyclists will flock to the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway.

Sections of both major roadways will be closed to vehicle traffic on Sunday (June 4) for the second-annual Bike for Brain Health ride in support of the Baycrest Foundation.

Toronto police say the following road closures will be in place from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday:

  • Don Valley Parkway from Gardiner Expressway to York Mills Road
  • Gardiner Expressway from South Kingsway to Don Valley Parkway
  • Additional roads surrounding Exhibition Place

Drivers can expect “significant delays” in the downtown core, particularly on the arterial roadways and side streets. Police are advising motorists to plan alternative routes and take public transportation instead of driving.

There are three routes for the event: 25km, 50km and 75km. Cyclists can participate on their own, with a team of friends or family, or as part of a corporate team.
