Students and staff at Christ the King Secondary School in Georgetown raised nearly $147,000 for cancer survivors at the June 2 Relay for Life fundraising event

Students and staff at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School raised nearly $147,000 in this year’s Relay for Life campaign, earning the Georgetown school the title of number one fundraising school in the country.

Helping Canadians fighting cancer was at the heart of the fundraiser, with more than 700 students and about 30 staff members walking for 12 hours during the June 2 relay. Participants collected donations during the event, with some individual students raising more than $6,000 each, helping the team celebrating 13 cancer survivors on the day.

“This remarkable achievement reflects the spirit of unity, determination, and compassion that defines our school community,” said Principal Lisa Vasile. “Together, we have shown that when we come together with a common purpose, we can achieve extraordinary results.”

The Relay for Life campaign aims to provide a support system to help Canadians diagnosed with cancer live their lives as fully as possible by enhancing their quality of life.
