GO Station parking lots in Burlington, Oshawa to become temporary road test sites

In an effort to address the backlog of driving tests in Ontario, Metrolinx has announced that several GO Station parking lots will be used as temporary testing centres.
In a press release issued Wednesday (Nov. 3), the transit provider said that parking lots at Burlington GO, Mount Joy GO, East Gwillimbury GO, and Oshawa GO stations will start serving as temporary road test sites.
Ontario residents looking to book their passenger road tests (class G2/G) at these sites can now do so at the Drive Test website.
The Ministry of Transportation has said that roughly 421,827 road tests have been cancelled due to the pandemic since March 2020.
In acknowledging the backlog, the province has given novice drivers with licences expiring between March 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2022, until the end of next year to pass tests needed to maintain or upgrade their licences.
Lee Alderson, a senior issues adviser for the Ministry of Transportation, said the province is taking “bold action” to deal with the backlog that built up due to closures and restrictions brought on by the pandemic.

To date, the province has opened nine temporary road test centres — in Burlington, East Gwillimbury, Guelph, Niagara, Mississauga, Markham, Ottawa, Oshawa and Sarnia — but doesn’t currently plan to open more.
Still, Ontario residents have reported waiting months to book tests as the province struggles to catch up.
The new GO Station temporary road test locations can be found at:
- Burlington GO Station: 2101 Fairview St., Burlington
- Mount Joy GO Station:1801 Bur Oak Ave., Markham
- East Gwillimbury GO Station: 845 Green Lane East, East Gwillimbury
- Oshawa GO Station: 915 Bloor St. West, Oshawa
