GO train service will be impacted for the next two weeks or so in Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and the Niagara region as work continues on a huge light rail transit (LRT) project in Mississauga.

Officials with Metrolinx, the agency that oversees regional transit in the Golden Horseshoe, say passengers using the Lakeshore West GO train line through Jan. 21 should keep a close watch on updated service schedules as a number of train trips will be affected.

Adjusted train schedules are necessary, officials say, as crews complete important work at Port Credit Go station as part of the Hurontario LRT project. The work can only be done when no trains are running.

When completed in fall 2024, the 18-kilometre LRT route will move passengers from Port Credit GO station in the south to Brampton, with 19 stops along the way.

Metrolinx says the most significant service change is scheduled for this Saturday when there will be no GO train service between Union Station in Toronto and Oakville for the entire day.

GO trains will still run hourly between West Harbour GO in Hamilton and Oakville GO, and every half hour between Aldershot in Burlington and Oakville.

From Oakville, GO buses will be available to take riders to Union Station bus terminal in Toronto.

Customers who use Long Branch, Mimico and Exhibition GO stops will not have bus or train service on Saturday.

Beyond this Saturday’s service reduction, similar service changes are planned for tonight (Jan. 6), Jan. 13 and Jan. 18-21 after 9:30 p.m.

During those periods, there will be no GO train service between Union Station and Oakville. However, replacement buses will be at Oakville, Clarkson and Port Credit GO stations to get passengers to Union Station and back again.

Specifically, here’s what riders need to know regarding GO train service for Jan. 6, 13 and 18-21:

  • the last eastbound train departing West Harbour in Hamilton at 9:58 p.m. will end at Oakville GO at 10:33 p.m.
  • the 8:45 p.m. Union Station to West Harbour GO train (arriving Hamilton 10:03 p.m.) is the last westbound train to make all stops to West Harbour
  • there will be a bus bridge between Oakville GO and Union Station bus terminal

Metrolinx says similar impacts along the Lakeshore West line are planned for February and March as well.
