Message from the Oakville & Milton Humane Society:

Picture this. You’re walking through the hardware store, picking out the supplies you need for your next project. You don’t really want to build that shed, but you’re looking for something to keep you busy now that you’ve finished all your Jigsaw puzzles. You’re looking at your phone, reading your shopping list when you decide to take a little break and sneak a peek at the dogs in your area searching for a home. You’ve been looking for a dog for a while, but haven’t come across the right one yet.

And then you see Joey. Goofy smile, and only 6 months old. You’re totally charmed, and you’re totally hooked…

So, you want to know more about Joey? Well, it all started when Joey and his siblings arrived at the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. Right from the start, there was something different about Joey – something unique. He was noticeably more shy than his siblings and took longer to get comfortable with the staff members. Once out of the shelter environment and into a foster home, Joey showed his true personality.

Put simply, Joey is going to be a challenging project. He is stubborn, he is mouthy, and he has resource guarding tendencies. He is not your typical puppy. Alright, so what’s good about Joey? What makes him a great companion? His sociability! He loves people, and he is fun to train. He is athletic and engaging. He picks up on useful skills easily and is very intelligent. He’s food motivated and responds well to training cues like “sit”, “down”, and “wait.”

Ideally, a home with previous experience owning and training a dog would be best for Joey. He will require an adult-only home where everyone is 18+. His owner should have knowledge and understanding of his behavioural challenges and should be willing to provide consistent training to address Joey’s impulse control. Joey cannot live with a cat or small animals.

So, if you are looking for a project and are tired of painting rocks and doing puzzles, then Joey might be just the guy for you!

If you would like to learn more about Joey and think he could be a great fit for your family, please submit a Dog Adoption Survey to the Adoptions department.
